Smaller Corporate Office moves PlumRiver Technologies closer towards Sustainability Goals

In a move to adopt more sustainable business practices, PlumRiver Technologies is reducing the size of its Denver-based corporate headquarters by more than 70%.  The office space reduction is the result of transitioning to a more virtual office model for many employees who support the company’s leading B2B ecommerce platform Elastic. The adoption of a more remote work environment is also designed to facilitate greater collaboration among PlumRiver employees working across multiple time zones in the US, Europe, and the Asia/Pacific region.

“Reducing the footprint of our corporate office at this time simply makes sense from both a business and sustainability perspective. Our digital technology platforms provide virtual wholesale merchandising capability and greater sustainability through the elimination of printed B2B sales catalogs. Through this move we’re bringing our company workspace policies more in line with these same environmental stewardship principles held not only by PlumRiver but by many of our clients.”

-Josh Reddin, CEO PlumRiver Technologies

PlumRiver’s new, smaller corporate office is still located in the popular 17th & Larimer class A business complex in downtown Denver’s Lodo Ballpark district.  Environmental benefits resulting from the move are expected to come from reduced emissions by eliminating employee commuting, less office-related energy consumption, and ultimately fewer resources used to construct and maintain commercial office space.

Focusing on Sustainability

Leading brands renowned for their commitment to the environment, such as The North Face, Patagonia, Volcom, RipCurl, Shimano and many others, are utilizing PlumRiver’s Elastic B2B digital merchandising platform to greatly reduce or eliminate printing and shipping of product catalogs and sales workbooks. The use of Elastic at The North Face alone has cut, on an annual basis, the brand’s carbon footprint by an estimated:

  • 3.22 million pounds of CO2
  • 507 tons of wood products
  • 3,010 trees equal to 48 acres of forest
  • 89.5 tons of solid waste

This environmental impact data is based on scientific methodology created by the Environmental Paper Network.

PlumRiver has also established industry alliances and is donating money to help manufacturers pursue more sustainable business practices through B2B print reduction and elimination. In a partnership with the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA), PlumRiver donates 8% of their revenue from creating digital catalogs for member brands to help fund environmental programs for the surf industry’s Business Sustainability Alliance. The Running Industry Association (RIA) has also partnered with PlumRiver to provide their members with discounted access to the Elastic platform to more easily reduce and eliminate B2B printing via digital catalog creation.

“Through our industry leading Elastic digital merchandising technology, now deployed by multiple brands across many verticals, we’re helping make a significant positive environmental impact and combat climate change,” added Reddin.  “While we’ve made great progress on this front through our current industry alliances, we expect to accelerate this effort in the near future through additional partnerships with organizations more directly linked to global environmental and climate related causes.”
